Fresh New Look for City of London School
Following an involvement in an earlier phase of this large-scale school refurbishment project, Petal was invited to provide the washroom facilities for the Main House of the City of London Freeman’s School in Ashtead, Surrey. This Grade II listed building required modernisation to allow it to thrive into a sixth form centre. The scope of the project in design terms was to maintain the school’s exacting standards and its position as a premier provider of private education in the area. Petal’s 10 year warranty was an important factor in this project given the delicate nature of working with such a historic property.
Following extensive consultation, it was decided to remove much of the post-Victorian interventions to the building, peeling back the layers and restoring much of the original glory of this historic building. In terms of palette, colours were carefully selected throughout to complement and enhance the existing features.
Petal’s Thor cubicles were selected in a Grass Green to give a contemporary look that was also in keeping with the natural features of this building. With inward and opening doors for both showers and WCs and co-ordinating access panels, great care was taken to ensure a look befitting of this premier address. In an interesting bespoke feature, the cubicle configuration includes a locked cleaning cupboard to every set of two WCs, with an extended door height to prevent unwanted access.
