A New Era for Sustainable Travel with Belfast Grand Central Station.
Petal’s flush fronted Line Plus cubicles with matching woodgrain wood panelling provide a classy modern aesthetic for Belfast’s biggest new build construction project in over 100 years – Belfast Grand Central Station. Materials and systems were carefully selected to adhere to RPP Architect’s brief of creating an open and welcoming ‘front door’ to the city, reflecting modernity, civic presence and ambitious design.
Petal was appointed by main contractors Farrans Sacyr JV to provide cubicle and washroom systems throughout this major public realm project and worked in close alignment with both architect and contractor to provide a solution worthy of Ireland’s largest integrated transport hub. With a challenging construction time-frame, Petal’s supply and fit service helped to keep the project on track.
Petal’s Line Plus flush fronted cubicle system was manufactured in 20mm Compact Grade Laminate (CGL) to achieve the robustness required to withstand the heavy footfall associated with a public building of this nature. A dark natural woodgrain was carefully selected to harmonise with the design specification and aesthetic achieved throughout the building. Petal’s Advance Panel System duct access panels were constructed in a matching wood grain matt laminate finish to replicate the effect across cubicle units and urinals. To achieve continuity throughout, Petal also supplied a complementing 12mm CGL panelling behind the mirrors and baby changing units.
Solid surface vanity units in White Jasmine provide a striking contrast to the dark woodgrain cubicles and are complete with a stainless-steel insert provided by a third party, achieving a nod to the industrial setting in which the building is nestled. In order to achieve truly unique project, the client’s logo is included on soap dispensers and paper towel units to ensure a visible brand and demonstrate the pride that Translink holds for this flagship building.
As well as the strong calibre of design and construction, Petal the team was also impressed with the environmental credentials of this project, which align with the company’s own commitment to sustainable practices. With over 200 spaces for bicycles, 26 bus stands and 8 rail platforms, a core focus of the project is to provide sustainable and carbon reducing travel solutions for Belfast city and beyond.
Speaking of this latest project, Petal’s Managing Director Pat Monaghan commented, ‘We are delighted to have worked alongside Farrans Sacyr JV and RPP Architects on this prestigious project. Our ability to provide such high quality systems in a challenging time-frame whilst adhering to the sustainable principles specified is proof of our capabilities in such high profile settings.’
