Washroom Solutions Worth Writing Home About
Petal’s many decades of experience in the manufacture and installation of washroom solutions for the education sector was called upon for this refurbishment of a prestigious library at University College, Dublin. Named after famous Irish literary giant, James Joyce, this library is located across four floors and hosts collections across many disciplines including Arts, Celtic Studies, Human Sciences and Law. Petal’s refurbishment of the toilet facilities formed part of a large-scale capital project to redevelop the library into a modern, comfortable space for its diverse student base.
Petal worked closely with Reddy Architecture & Urbanism – the project architect on the scheme to achieve a washroom space sensitive to the cultural heritage of its surrounding, with a modern, welcoming vibe for the many students who occupy the space. Petal’s Thor Plus cubicles with 2.4m height and minimum floor clearance ensure a feeling of privacy in the cubicles and the wood grain laminate finish is replicated to the interior in Petal’s P300 Advanced Panel System for duct & access panelling.
The solid surface vanity trough was chosen in a concrete style effect, achieving a grounded, earthy vibe in combination with the wood effect laminate cubicles and wall panels, and the beautifully selected ochre tones of the wall tiling throughout. Portrait style oval mirrors achieve a dramatic reflection of the full height cubicle doors and are in keeping with the vertical approach to wall tiling. The black laminate under panelling of the vanity units achieves a further depth to the aesthetic.
